mother's day - a few reasons why i love being a mom

I consider myself blessed to be a mom. I write this as my son is singing to himself upstairs in his crib, refusing to fall asleep, despite being exhausted.

I say to myself, "at least he doesn't cry himself to sleep."

Parenting is not something that Eric and I embarked upon lightly. We waited. We waited for God's timing and until we felt that we were as ready as we would ever be, which wasn't completely ready, but ready enough for us.

Despite the readiness factor, I always knew what that I wanted to be a mom. When I was little, I remember filling out sheets for school on my favorite this and that and one of the questions was always inevitably what I wanted to be when I grew up. My response was always a combination of mom, actress, and marine biologist. Luckily, one of them stood the test of time.

So, in honor of mother's day, I wanted to take a small moment to share a few of the many things I love about being a mom. This is perhaps a cute cliched little post, but perhaps it's more for the days when I feel like I can't do anything right, so that I can remind myself some of the reasons why this job is amazing.

A Few Reasons Why I love Being a Mom
Being Mama - I love being the one that my child smiles and runs to when I pick him up from nursery at church or the one that he begs to pick him up when he is tired. I have babysat had other children in my life, but at the end of the day, the other kids wanted their mom. I love that I am finally that one that is the rock and person that they want most (besides dad of course).

Watching Successes - I love watching my child learn and grow and watching his determination as he tries different things. I love watching as he finally succeeds at things and that he wants me to watch him and notice him.

All Things New - I love watching how everything is new in my child's eyes. Fish at the grocery store are amazing, all flowers need to be stopped and looked at, and a stick is a treasure. I love the wonder that he looks at the world with and how all things appear new to me as I notice them through his little eyes.

Laughter - I have never known someone to make me laugh as much as my child. His little giggle and personality can put a smile on my face like no body else. And when he is being grumpy, I try to limit my tickling of him to get them out of him, but sometimes I can't help myself. He makes me laugh.

God Shaping Character - One of the best things that God has done to help me with my own selfishness is to provide me with a child. I don't have it down by any means, but I can feel God molding me into a more patient and loving person through my child (my spouse), making me more the person that He desires me to be.

Wishing all the moms out there a Happy Mother's Day
